38. Leitz Photographica Auction

At the 38th camera auction of the renowned auction house “Leitz Photographica Auction” on June 12th in Vienna, many unique collector’s items, as well as outstanding examples of camera history, will be auctioned again. 469 lots with exciting bidding battles await bidders from over 100 countries.

The Leica MP2 Chrome with Electric Motor, serial number 952014 (Estimate € 300.000 – 350.000) is the highlight of this auction. Die MP2 was the first experimental M camera with electric motor drive built in the late 1950s. Of these only 21 cameras were produced in chrome and there are probably only ten copies left today.

Another highlight is the Leica I Mod. A Luxus with the serial number 48402 (Estimate: € 200.000 – 250.000) in original condition. From 1929 to 1931 only 95 ‚Luxus‘ Leicas were produced and just a few have survived in their original condition. An original ‘Luxus’ Leica is one of the greatest rarities in the Leica world.

The Leica MP 0.72 chrome of photographer Martin Hartley (Estimate: € 6.000 – 7.000) tells an exciting story. Hartley documented the Catlin Arctic Survey Project at the North Pole with this camera in 2010 and the lot also includes two limited prints and a bottle of water from a drill core at the North Pole.

At this auction, the auction house is once again making a lot available for charitable purposes. The entire proceeds of a pre-series Leica M-A Edition 100 (Starting price: € 3.000) will go to „Licht ins Dunkel “, the largest humanitarian aid campaign in Austria.

Bids for the upcoming auction on June 12th can be submitted online (www.leitz-auction.com), in writing or by telephone. Live bidding at www.leitz-auction.com or www.liveauctioneers.com.

‘Leitz Photographica Auction’ is one of the world’s leading auction houses for classic and vintage cameras and photographica, and is now firmly established on the international scene. A rare example of the Leica 0-Series produced in 1923 was a sensational highlight at the auction in 2018. The camera achieved a record-breaking hammer price of 2.4 million euros and still holds the record for the highest price ever paid for a camera sold by auction.
